I am 31 years old, have been fly fishing and fly tying for 11 years, and have worked at Zefix Flyfishing for 5 years.
I tie everything I need for my travels and guidings myself, but I prefer streamers. The number one rule for me in fly tying is that every material and every tying step must serve a purpose – not playful artificial flies, but flies that serve a purpose, namely to catch fishes without tying them for an hour beforehand. Only with some streamers, it does sometimes actually take an hour or two to tie them.
