Two Different Stonefly Patterns:
1) A Stonefly Nymph
2) A Stonefly Dry Fly
1) Perla Stonefly Nymph, a good imitation for alpine streams but also for lowland waters. Stoneflies live up to 3 years as nymphs before hatching, so they are available for fish year round. This stonefly nymph imitation can be used from the beginning till the end of the fishing season; it is especially effective for big trout. Our favorite pattern has a flat, two-tone body (top brown, belly pale like the natural nymphs). The legs are very lifelike and move in the water. Heart-shaped wing cases complete the realistic silhouette. A heavy tungsten head and additional lead wraps in the thorax are indispensable for fast streams and deep pools where the biggest trout wait for their prey.
2) Dry-Fly Stonefly , a realistic pattern, made with a foam body, CDC under wing, and realistic trimmed wings. Deer hair legs positioned to the sides improve the overall look of the fly and help it to float well despite the large 6-8 size hook. The pattern is proven and effective during hatches of big stoneflies in May and June.
