Matteo Ghizzo was born in Legnano in 1975. He always remembers how, when his great-uncle showed him his basket on his return from fly fishing, he exclaimed: “Mum, look, trout with chicken pox!”. They were brown trout… A few months later he started fishing.
In the summer of 1982, he moved to Sardinia with his family. He stayed there for almost fifteen years, devoting himself mainly to sea fishing, from inshore fishing with the Bolognese fishing rod (Italian-style tip fishing) to surf fishing and heavy rock fishing, whereby he also remained interested and enthusiastic about fishing in inland waters.
In 1997, for professional reasons, Matteo returned to Lombardy, to the province of Varese, where he still lives today. There he practised various techniques until he came to fly fishing in 2009, which he immediately made his sole hobby. For him, it is the most beautiful, fascinating, complex, and challenging way to fish there is. And fly tying is a passion within the passion of fly fishing.
In January 2012, he suffered the amputation of his right arm after an accident at work and has since reinvented his own way of fly fishing and fly tying.
